Golden Copy Archive Engine

This subscription license for Golden Copy enables new data life cycle policies to reduce the costs of backup streams and enables end user and policy driven data management policies.  Archive capability enables automation to reduce cost by moving data to lower cost storage and providing visibility to aging data.

Key Use Cases

  1. End User archive workflow

  2. Policy Driven archive workflow

  3. Backup data cost reduction workflow

Key Features

  1. File to object with metadata encoded into the objects

  2. Single VM or scale out

  3. Cloud tier transparent archiving allows data to move into low cost tiers like AWS S3 Deep archive and the recall engine can handle the recall from these tiers transparently to the administrator or end user

  4. Content aware metadata encoding allows rich metadata used in almost all file types to be extracted during the archive process and exposed as customer S3 object properties.  This unique content aware feature provides a deep understanding of what is in the archive by exposing information about the file.

  5. SMB security aware solution provides integrated AD security of the archive data.   No extra steps to secure your archive data to end users

User Work Flow Automation

Managing billions of files requires Enterprise solution to manage the life cycle of this data from active state to warm archive to cold archive storage.   Golden Copy Archive Engine is a Cloud object storage enabled archive platform that automates moving stale data to object storage.   The key to this solution is enabling direct placement of cold data into the low cost storage tiers such as AWS Glacier or Deep archive tier (future release) or Azure Archive.   This reduces the cost of the archive data.

What happens when the data is needed by Users?

The solution will leave an html link in any folder where data is archived.    This link will take the user to a self service portal that allows the user to request data to be recalled.   This portal requires authentication and browsing of archived data in the cloud based on the users folder permissions, ensuring the user can only recall data they have permissions to see within the file system.

The user can select one or more files from the portal and enter an email address to be notified when the data is recalled to the file system.

The solution will recall the data from the archive tiers in the cloud automatically and then restore the data back on the cluster and will email the user when the data has been recalled.

Advantages for NAS Administrators

  1. Report on user data recalls

  2. Control when and how much data users can recall

  3. Approve or Deny requests for data recall

  4. Schedule recalls to occur in off peak hours

Key Features

  1. Dell ECS, AWS and Azure native object storage support

  2. Object data in the cloud is natively accessible with any S3 tools, including WebUI that allows seamless browsing of archive data in the cloud

  3. User based self service archive and recall

  4. SMB Security of archive data is inherited from PowerScale SMB share security automatically

  5. Bulk recall or single file quick download from Golden Copy Archiver GUI

  6. Data is moved to the target object storage to free up space on PowerScale

  7. Administrator controls for archive only or  archive and recall

  8. Schedule archive and recalls in off peak hours

  9. Single VM, or multi VM for higher performance

  10. License model

    1. Subscription based on the TB Capacity of the Cluster

    2. Available in 1 year, 3 year and 5 year subscriptions

Policy Driven WorkFlow

NAS admins can configure Archive engine to scan a path and provide a summary of the aging data that exists on this path and the ability to get an ROI calculation showing the cost savings to archive data to object storage.    The workflow enables administrators to specify last modified or last accessed time stamps to move data to object storage on premise or in the cloud.

The workflow leaves behind a breadcrumb for users so they know have archived data available in a folder and can login with an html link to view archived data.

The seamless file system to archive side by side view gives users an easy way to see archived files and click to download single files or request an entire tree of data
